Without Purification

When it comes to aspects of fiqh, most of the time people teach about purification broken up into different sections. This many times causes people some confusion as to what they can and can not do if they are not a state of purification. There are different reasons as to why one leaves, or breaks the state of purity. They are different in levels as well as severity. That which is obligatory when one comes out of their state of purity actually differs according to what they did to cause this to happen. Do you see why this situation causes so much confusion to the average person.

Time and time again, during our fiqh classes, we come across those that the issue remains unclear to them. Therefore, what I wanted to do today is to bring these situations together all in one place, as a quick and easy point of reference for anyone that would like to picture the whole issue easily. Before I begin though, I need to make one thing clear.

When we talk about reasons for not being in a state of purity, we find that generally they can be broken into one of three different categories. The first of these that we will be discussing here is that of a woman that is going through her menstruation cycle, or even one that is affected by post natal bleeding. The second category is someone (man or woman) that is not in a state of purification because of a sexual impurity. Last but not least, we have those (both men and women) that have simply been effected by minor impurities (broke their wudoo).

Now, let us talk about those things that a person can not do while being in one of these three situations.

When a woman has here menstrual period, or is suffering from post natal bleeding, she can not do eight things;

  1. Prayer
  2. Fasting
  3. Recitation of the Quran
  4. Touching the Mushaf and carrying it with out a barrier present between her and it.
  5. Entering the Masjid
  6. Tawaaf
  7. Sexual relations between her and her husband
  8. Being pleasured by way of that which is between the naval and the knees

When someone is in a state of sexual impurities, they must stay away from participating in;

  1. Prayer
  2. Recitation of the Quran
  3. Touching the Mushaf and carrying it with out a barrier present between her and it.
  4. Tawaaf
  5. Remaining in the Masjid once entering

The one that is in the state of minor impurities must not participate in three things;

  1. Prayer
  2. Tawaaf
  3. Touching the Mushaf and carrying it with out a barrier present between her and it.

Conclusion:

Now that we have all of that information in front of us, it is upon us to begin working by this knowledge. As well we should all be of those that are learning beneficial things, as well as teaching them. So make sure that you do your job to share this information with the Muslims that you know. It doesn’t matter if it is through sending this to them, sitting down  having a class with your loved ones, or any other way. Just make sure that the information gets out to the rest of the Muslims. This way, you can make do your best to help your brothers and sisters stay in a state of purity, thus having those acts of worship that depend on them be acceptable to Allah.

May Allah increase us all in beneficial knowledge, and forgive us for our shortcomings. Allahuma ameen.
