The next type of innovation that we want to address, is that which is connected to our actions and worship. This as you can imagine is to worship Allah in a way which is other than that which was legislated. This is done by either adding to the legislated ways of worship, as well as by abandoning that which was legislated and replacing it with that which was not. When this is being done, how can someone claim to be upon pure guidance, and be truthful in their claim?
The issue that we need to worry about, is that of those things that we have already learned and put into practice. We need to do our best to make sure that we check that which we are doing, and make sure that we are performing these acts of worship correctly. There have been many people that after doing this realized that some of the information that they received early on after becoming Muslim was incorrect. It is not always done on purpose. More times than not, we find that the people that may have told us this information had good intentions, any may not themselves have known any better. This is why it is so important for us to always be checking to make sure that we are doing things correctly.
Some may ask why is there such a big deal being made about these issues. I want to share with you a very important point, which will answer this question, and aide you in answering it to others. Your brothers and sisters love you, and want that which is good for you. They want you to meet Allah with deeds that are accepted, so that you receive an enormous reward. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) told us that if we do actions of worship that are not from what the original Muslims were upon that it will be rejected. No Muslim would want to see another Muslim work hard to do worship all of their lives, and end up having the actions rejected, when all they had to do was warn them.
