The type of innovation that we want to focus on today is the first one that we mentioned last week. If you remember, this was that type of innovation that is directly connected to the belief system (aquidah) of the Muslim. This happens when a Muslim begins to believe something that is in contradiction to that which Allah has informed us of, and to that which He sent His Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him).
We have been commanded to restrict our belief system to those things that the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions (may Allah be pleased with all of them) were upon. The Prophet was so concerned with this issue that he warned them in an authentic hadeeth about the dangers of the effects of leaving their way. I am sure that each of you has heard that hadeeth where the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said, “My nation will divide into 73 sects, and all of them will be in the fire except one.” They asked him, “Who this group?” So he said, “Those who are upon like that which I am upon today, and my companions.”
So we see, that especially when talking about issues of our belief system, we need to stick to that which the Muslims were originally upon. Being upon anything other than this, may cause us to enter into a very bad situation in the long run, as stated in the hadeeth. (May Allah protect us all from the fire… Allahuma ameen). Therefore it is imperative that you do your best to make sure that you hold fast to the original belief system of Islam, and stay far away from any of those newly invented ideas that have been introduced, as there is no good in them. Had there been good in them, the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) would have informed us of them long ago.
