Unity (Part 1)

In this  particular series I will be discussing with you different aspects of the importance of unity in our religion, and how it came to bring us together and stop us from breaking apart into groups and parties. There are far too many evidences that explain to us the importance of sticking together and not separating and dividing into groups and parties. These evidences are clear, yet we still have people that are calling the Ummah to freeing themselves from one another and not being together upon the statement of Tawheed.

Look at that hadeeth reported by Imaam at Tirmidhi where he relates that the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) stated, “The hand of Allah is with the Jamaa’ah”. This narration in itself tells us the importance of sticking together and not being divided. It explains that Allah’s aid, assistance and other than that are with the Jamaa’ah of the Muslims. Now granted, the Scholars have disagreed to the exact group that this hadeeth was referring to, as Imaam ash Shaatibi explained in his book ‘Al Itisaam’. He brings the fact that there are five different statements as to whom exactly were being referred, but the fact remains that this hadeeth was not limited to them. Rather, those that were trying to be upon and hold onto that which they were upon. Those that stick together upon the truth and try to follow that which is from the religion of Islam to the best of their ability.

We are not supposed to be of those that see people trying, and still find reasons to abandon and free ourselves from them. This is not how we gain the aid of Allah. Rather we need to come together upon that which is correct. We need to help and teach one another. We have to begin to be patient with one another and love one another. All of this needs to be done because this is what Allah wants from us and that with which He is pleased. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) explained that Allah’s aid will come both upon, as well as for the Jamaa’ah. So we need to make sure that we do our best to be part of this Jamaa’ah, so that we be of those that are able to benefit from this aid of which we are in dire need. May Allah write us from those that hold onto the Jamaa’ah and do not break away from it. Allahuma ameen.
