The month of Shabaan (the 8th month in the Islamic Calendar) is a very important month to the Muslim, even though many of us do not understand it’s significance. We find that because our societies pay no attention to the Islamic Calendar, even in many of the Muslim countries, we pay no attention as to in which of the months that we are currently living. This is why I wanted to point out some benefits of this particular month so that we can really begin to appreciate this whole way of life that Allah has sent down to mankind as a mercy, even down to the months in our calendar year.
One of the reasons that the Month of Shabaan is so important to you as a Muslim, is that you must know that our deeds are raised up to Allah during this month. Therefore, you should be trying to do your best to cap off that list of deeds which will reach Allah with the best deeds possible. Even if you did not do as well during other times of the years as you would have liked and send forth the deeds that you would have preferred, this is a huge opportunity for you. Do all of the good that you can now, and have your deeds raised to your Lord showing your efforts having increased.
A proof for the fact that our deeds are raised during this month is the narration of Usamah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) when he stated, “I said to the Prophet, ‘Oh Messenger of Allah! I did not see you fasting in any month as you do in the month of Sha’ban’. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:”People neglect this month which is between Rajab and Ramadan, in this month the actions of the people are presented to Allah; so I like my deeds to be presented while I am fasting”. [reported by both Abu Dawood, An-Nassaa’i].
If it was important to someone as great as the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessing be upon him) to make sure that his deeds were raised up to Allah in the best manner possible, how much more important should it be for us? Therefore, it is imperative that we all do the best that we can do to increase in our worship and obedience in this month, so that we can possibly find the best position with Allah possible.
