Yet another issue that we find, is when people decide to marry seeking to gain some benefit due to the lineage of the other person. You will find that people will marry an individual simply due to who their families are, and what they represent. This is not something that we find specific within our Muslim communities. Rather, we find this a custom that has been dated back as long as people have been documenting history.
Again, we would like to reiterate the fact that there is nothing wrong with doing this if the decision is not based solely on this issue. The problem arises when we allow who a person’s family or lineage alone determine our decision to marry or not. Looking all throughout time, we have seen many examples of how this action has caused problems for individuals, households, communities and even civilizations. How is it that we still have not learned that this is not a good practice? May Allah aide us all in making better choices and decisions… Allahuma ameen.
