Good Mannerisms (Part 5)

Welcome back to this series in The Building Blocks Posts. As you know we have been discussing the issue of “Good Mannerisms” and the importance of this topic in the life of a Muslim. Today we want to briefly discuss the reality of what good mannerisms are in reality. This way we do not move to far in the discussion without seeing eye to eye as to what we are talking about exactly.

Good mannerisms cause an individual to do as much good as possible, and stay away from harming others to the best of our abilities. It is that you approach others putting the best foot forward at all times. One should always be prepared for whatever may happen from the people, and still treat others in the best way possible. Someone with good mannerisms is very forgiving towards others and not always trying to hold things against them. When it comes to their rights over others, they are willing to overlook what they feel they deserve. When it comes to the rights of others, they do not fail to try to fulfill them to the best of their abilities.

This is what is requested from someone that has these good characteristics and mannerisms that is required from the Muslim. When we look back, we find that the best of examples for this was the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him). You will not find times where this was not a natural part of his character. If it is truly his sunnah that we are claiming to be upon, we need to do a better job at trying to be just as he was in his daily life.

I am sure there are some of you that say that no one is perfect, and that we all fall short. Yes, you are right. But we many times do not even try to live up to that which we claim to be upon. Even when we are reminded, we still do not return to those mannerisms that we know that we are supposed to be showing. So no, we are not perfect and will never be. This is still not an excuse for us to decide to not even try, or only try when we are in the mood. We have to agree that we need to do better, then put all of our effort into establishing these mannerisms and characteristics in our everyday lives. Don’t you agree?
