Do not forget that we were told by the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him);
“A man will follow the way of his close friends, so let each one of you look at who he takes as a close friend.”
This in itself should be enough for us not to take these types of people as our friends and close companions. These people that have proven themselves not to be truthful, whether it be in statement, action or belief. Knowing that we should understand that people usually choose friends and companions that are generally like them, shouldn’t our choice in companions tell us something about ourselves.
Also, I want to mention that, as much as it should tell us about ourselves, it should also be used as a way of measuring this truthfulness in others. If you really want to find out who someone is, regardless of what they say or show you at times, you should take a good look at the type of people that they choose with which to surround themselves. This will tell you a lot about what they are pleased with and what they are not.
All of this is to reiterate the fact that we have been commanded to be with the truthful. There is an abundance of wisdom as to why we have been commanded with this. It will be of those things that will lead to our happiness in both this life and in the hereafter in sha Allah. Thus, we need to stop taking it so lightly and adhere to that which was told to us by Allah.
