Question:
- If the fasting person spent most of the day relaxing because of severe hunger and thirst, does this have an effect on the correctness of his fast?
Answer:
- This does not affect the correctness of his fast. As a matter of fact there is an increase in reward because of the statement of the Prophet (may Allah s peace and blessings be upon him) to A’isha (may Allah be pleased with her), “Your reward is depending upon the amount of effort that you put forth” (narrated by both Bukhari and Muslim). So the more one exerts themselves in their obedience to Allah, the more their reward is increased. So for him if he wants to, is to lighten the hardship on himself somewhat by cooling off in water or sitting in a cold place.
