We will focus now on the issue of ‘honoring our parents’. This is something even one generation ago, was non negotiable in any and every household. You were made to honor both your mother and father regardless of the situation. I am not sure what happened, but when you look around a generation later, you see a huge change.
It used to be that you used to address your mother and father as Mam and Sir. Then as times moved on, they were addressed as Mom and Dad. Nowadays you find that many of the youth address their parents by their first names. Where did this come from?
You find that children curse at their parents, and some even hit their parents. It is even worse when we realize that some of those that partake in these horrific acts are from our Muslim youth. This never used to be, even in non Muslim households a generation ago. We have to find a way to get back to the way things were, and stop these horrific acts from continuing.
How did our situation become so reversed and in only one generation?
