The usage of an asthma inhaler while fasting

Question:

  • What  is the ruling on using an asthma inhaler because of a hardship breathing for the fasting person? Does it break their fast?

Answer:

  • This inhaler does turns into a mist and does not reach the stomach. Therefore, there is no problem with using it while one is fasting. It does not break your fast. This is because, as we have stated, it does not reach the stomach. It is sprayed, turned into a mist, then it disappears, so it never reaches the stomach. So it is permissible for one to use it while they are fasting. Again, it does not nullify ones fast.
