As well, another thing that we all should know is the names of the Four Great Imaams of Ahles Sunnah (The People of The Sunnah). These were the heads of the four Madhaahib schools of fiqh that we hear of so often. For those of you that are not sure what we are talking about, I am sure that you have heard of the Schools of Hanafi, Maaliki, Shaafi’i and Hanbali Fiqh. Well these are the schools that we are talking about. Now we want to learn at least the names of these illustrious scholars.
The Names of the Imaams in order and the years they died;
- Imaam Abu Hanifah an Nu’maan bin Thaabit (150 after the hijrah)
- Imaam Maalik bin Anis (179 after the hijrah)
- Imaam Muhammad bin Idrees As Shaafi’i (204 after the hijrah)
- Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal (241 after the hijrah)
As Muslims who, whether or not we realize it, have been greatly affected by the understandings of these great scholars, and their schools of fiqh, we should at least know something about them. Don’t you agree?
